Guisbelle Mejia (Gees-BELL) serves as the Legal Assistant and Office Manager at Shapiro Zwanetz & Lake, a role that functions as the backbone of the firm’s day-to-day operations.
In her capacity as Legal Assistant, Guisbelle works directly with the attorneys on every stage of a case—from initial intake through resolution. She assists with drafting motions, reviewing discovery, coordinating subpoenas, and managing the countless moving parts that drive a criminal case forward. Her prior experience with the Maryland Judiciary, including her time as a courtroom and judiciary clerk in Frederick County, gives her a unique and practical understanding of how cases progress through the court system. That perspective allows her to operate with precision, organization, and a level of professionalism that is critical in criminal defense.
As Office Manager, Guisbelle oversees and helps advance the firm’s internal systems, which are central to its efficiency and responsiveness. She plays an active role in maintaining and improving the firm’s technological infrastructure, continuously identifying opportunities to streamline operations and implement tools that keep the firm at the forefront of innovation in the legal industry.
Guisbelle is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, allowing her to communicate directly with and support a broader range of clients with clarity and care.
She holds a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cyber Forensics at the University of Baltimore, further expanding her knowledge of digital investigations and the evolving intersection of technology and law.

Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time outdoors, exercising, and being with her family and friends.
