Driving Safe During the Holiday Season

car accidents

Holiday Stress = A Roadway MESS!

A challenging issue that we must contend with is a keen understanding that every year car accidents, and all the trauma that comes with them, will spike during the holiday season. According to the National Highway Administration, "There are more motor vehicle traffic crash fatalities during holiday periods than during non-holiday periods due to increased travel time, more alcohol use, and excessive driving speed.

In 2017, for example, the overall average number of fatalities were 102 per day. In comparison, the average fatalities during six major holiday periods (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/New Year's Day) were 119 per day."

However, with boots on the ground, the root seems to be the stress that the holiday season brings:

  • it's pitch black when we get out of work
  • many parents are rushing from one children's event to the other while trying to shop for all the gifts associated with their respective holiday traditions
  • money is often tight, especially currently
  • people are overall tense

In addition, since the pandemic, every major road has become the German Autobahn, with little to no traffic enforcement in the wake of nationwide police backlash. With all this in mind, we know winter is coming.

The legal team at SZL is here to assist if the unforeseen happens: We stress day and night so that our clients don't have to. If the unexpected happens, all you have to do is reach out to us, anytime day or night. We do entirely free consultations on all matters, and the intake process is simple.

A call regarding a personal injury matter will go from paralegal to lawyer rapidly. Our legal team will guide you in getting the proper medical treatment, care for your vehicle, and work with the relevant insurance companies to ensure that their mission to pay the least is counterbalanced with a real assessment of damages.

One aspect of personal injury matters that is unique, when compared to SZL's criminal defense work, is that there is NO FEE if there is no recovery. The legal fees in personal injury matters are on a contingent basis, which means a small fraction of an overall case award. Essentially, we stake our paychecks on our ability to do what we advertise, which is to get our clients as close to whole as possible.

With this holiday season rapidly approaching, we wish you complete health and prosperity. However, if our real-world experience and NHTSA's statistics become an unfortunate reality for you, a loved one, or a friend, please remember "your friends that defend," Shapiro Zwanetz & Lake, remain here 24/7. Let us do what we do best: take the weight off our client's backs and fight for what's legally right.
